Van Drivers Urged to Take Care in Festive Traffic Jams

Swinton Commercial, the van insurance specialist, has revealed that van drivers are set to lose up to six working hours a month sat in traffic jams. With traffic over the festive season even worse due to people holidaying and poor weather conditions, drivers must be increasingly vigilant over road safety to avoid crashes and having to make insurance claims.

The survey was carried out on 1,000 van drivers who were asked about the severity that traffic congestion had upon their working hours. It was found that 45 per cent of van insurance holders lose around one hour and ten minutes a week sitting in traffic jams. Twenty-three per cent of drivers said that they tried to avoid these jams by leaving their homes at 7am or earlier, whilst 17 per cent said they tried to work late in addition to avoid the end of day congestion.

With Christmas only just around the corner and more traffic on the road likely to make travelling conditions even worse, commercial vehicle manager at Swinton Commercial, Phil Moss, said “Christmas time is such a busy season for van drivers, and the impact of traffic congestion can be disastrous when you’re working to a strict schedule. The fact that van drivers lose so many working hours during such a crucial time is really quite surprising.” He added that van insurance was vital whatever the season, but with more traffic on the road, drivers should ensure that they had a wide reaching policy in place.
